At-Home Reading and Pumpkins

Hello families!

Now that the At-Home Reading program is in full swing, we just have a few strategies for you to work on with them while reading.

1. We have been practicing using our "reading finger" to track words as we read them. This way we don't accidentally say other words that make sense, but aren't on the page!'

2. The book can be kept for multiple nights to practice. They do not have to be returned daily.

3. If the kiddo is stuck on a word, don't read it for them! Have them sound out each letter (use stretchy the snake) to solve the word. Difficult words are exceptions.

4. If the kiddo can't solve the word, have them look at the picture to help connect it to the text.

These are some simple strategies that go a LONG way! (we use them in class frequently)

PUMPKINS

We are completing a pumpkin investigation next week. We are looking for pumpkin donations! Any size will do as it's great for comparisons. You can send them with your kiddo on Monday.

Have a warm weekend everyone!
